St. Elizabeth, Martin Luther, Bach

We came to the town of Eisenach, the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach.  We had a wonderful tour of his home and attached museum.  The performed some of his delightful music for the visitors.
But we became aware of a big castle overlooking this charming little German community.  It was called Wartburg (Wartburg College in Iowa is named after it).  This place has been occupied for 900 years.  Our tour guide was fantastic in explaining and drawing together parts of history, art, religion and German culture.  Elizabeth of Hungary moved to Wartburg and began a ministry to the poor and sick.  She died at age of 24 in 1231 and was soon declared a saint--St. Elizabeth of Hungary (her birthplace).  Luther came to Wartburg to translate the Bible into German in 1521.  His room is shown above.  It was a day to run into these three important personalities in one town.
